Sales Milestone and Player Reception
In an interview with Clips du Lund, spotted by Gamereactor, Sandfall Interactive developers revealed that while the official sales number is 3.3 million, Clair Obscur: Expedition has actually sold 4.4 million copies worldwide.
Sandfall last officially updated its sales figures in May, when the developer announced the game had sold a very impressive 3.3 million in its first thirty-three days.
What Makes Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Stand Out
Unlike many modern RPGs, Expedition 33 features turn-based combat with real-time mechanics, blending a cinematic narrative and a rich gameplay experience that both casual and hardcore fans have come to love since the game’s launch.
Despite what is believed to be a modest budget of roughly $30 million, Sandfall Interactive has produced a unique and emotionally story-driven RPG with distinct and memorable characters, stunning visuals, and rewarding progression.
The Future
Sandfall has not officially announced a DLC, but the game continues to get updated, with the most recent 1.4 patch adding the much-requested Battle Retry option and various quality-of-life improvements.
Meanwhile, the game is getting a live-action movie adaptation, with Sandfall partnering with the team behind the Sonic the Hedgehog films at Story Kitchen. So far, we don’t have casting or a release date for the movie.
Conclusion
Clair Obscur: Expedition has now sold over 4.4 million copies worldwide since it launched on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on April 24, 2025.
