• The denizens of the Mainframe are strange and diverse, many of them are inherently hostile, use a full complement of weapons and abilities to defend yourself and survive.
• Hacking is an essential part of the game; many parts of the mainframe can be tampered with, nothing is hardcoded, everything is systemic and fully exploitable. Locked doors, forcefields, elevators, and many spawning systems can all be backdoored by hacking their logic gates even the inhabitants themselves are not safe their programming can be bent to your will.

Recompile definitely isn’t a perfect game – its combat and platforming have issues and it’s easy to miss important things – but if you put the effort in, it’s a rewarding and enjoyable experience with stunning visual and audio design and an interesting storyline.

Recompile is a competent Metroidvania with a strong story and great writing let down by overly bland gameplay. Its platforming and puzzles are too simplistic, and its infrequent combat can frustrate, but hunting for bits of lore between those sections still managed to stay interesting.
