It might not feel all that different to NBA 2K25, but there are enough refinements and new things in NBA 2K26 to make this year's game more than worthwhile. If you're a fan of hoops, then the lure of a new MyCareer, more MyTeam, and the always great NBA Eras, will no doubt prove irresistible.

The absolute glut of content is impressive and intimidating all at once, and NBA 2K26’s on-the-court performance is so good that it’s worth the annoyances that come with the franchise. Whether you want to chart your custom character’s career through the NBA or WNBA, take the reins and rewrite your favorite franchise’s history, or build your dream roster of players from across eras, NBA 2K26 gives you all the tools to do so.

Each player will have their own personal favourite, but for me, it’s the story mode and GM mode that win the day. The ‘always online’ thing can be a bit of a pain, and there is no doubt that the spectre of microtransactions is constantly lurking if you want to fast-track your progress, but overall, NBA 2K26 is a game that shines. It is an excellent new addition to the franchise.

NBA 2K26 feels really good on the court, shooting is smoother, movement has less of that “ice-skating” vibe, and the animations blend together in a way that makes players look and react more naturally, so even a quick match can turn into “one more game.”

NBA 2K26 promises more variation in its pace of play and better timing for shots. But the biggest changes are perhaps in the modes: MyCareer with more advanced storytelling, a redesigned The City, and the WNBA taking centre stage in MyTEAM, confirming the positive trend towards feminisation in sports games! And more scenarios in MyNBA. Once again, it's not revolutionary, but it's a good update.
