MH Wilds is trying to shift its world towards a lively, immersive open world, rather than separate pieces of maps cut off from each other, which broke the rhythm in my opinion. The monsters behave rather realistically, the weather changes (storms, rain, night-time, etc.), you can ride a mount and wield two weapons (!!) exploration is a big bonus, as are crossplay and the efforts made in terms of storytelling! The combat hasn't changed much but it's still fine.
