Chasm Reviews

Chasm is a shining example of the concept that it adopts, and although it doesn’t really do anything out of the ordinary as far as its core design is concerned, it does indeed offer an exciting adventure that’s neatly paced and brilliantly structured. There’s a few technical issues to be mindful of, such as some visual blemishes and its slightly floaty controls, but for the most part, Chasm represents its genre remarkably well.

Chasm is a pretty enough game. The retro art-style might be nothing new (at a certain point, retro stops being retro and just becomes the norm again), but the colours are vibrant and the enemies are well-drawn. The environments, on the other hand, are a bit on the bland side, never dazzling and instead kind of just existing as something to run around in front of.

God is a Geek

In another year with less competition, I would have given Chasm a higher score because it’s a mechanically strong, if often frustrating addition to the metroidvania genre. The thing is, it’s 2018 and there are better examples out there right now that make it hard for me to ignore the chasm-sized flaws in its design.
