Battlefield 6 Returns to 64-Player Servers After EA Listens to Players

EA and Battlefield Labs have revealed that the upcoming Battlefield 6 will return to 64-player matches, as players didn’t like 128-player matches in Battlefield 2042. BF6 launches for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 10, 2025.

Battlefield 6 Returns to 64-Player Servers After EA Listens to Players

The return to 64-player matches for Battlefield 6 comes after the heavy criticism of Battlefield 2042 and its larger 128-player modes, which failed to impress fans.

By focusing on smaller matches, EA and developer Battlefield Labs hope for a refined and more enjoyable multiplayer experience. Few players will also see smaller maps, with BF6 focusing on classic large-scale warfare that defined the earlier titles in the franchise.

Why EA Brought Back 64-Player Servers

In an interview with Edge Magazine issue 415, Battlefield 6 design director Shashank Uchil revealed that while the studio thought 128-player matches would work, “it just didn’t catch on” with players.

Uchil also said that the Battlefield community was “very vocal” and so the development team scaled back their plans for Battlefield 6, because ultimately, they “do what the players want.”

A Refined Battlefield 6 Multiplayer

With Battlefield 6 set to revert back to what made the franchise so popular, 64-player, large-scale battles, there’s hope that the FPS can deliver a smoother experience, with squads given more room to work together in maps that don’t feel overcrowded or too empty.

By moving away from 128-player matches, players can expect a more balanced multiplayer experience on larger maps, improving the balance between vehicle and infantry combat.

Future Expectations

Hype for the Battlefield series is at an all-time high with Battlefield 6, particularly with how badly 2042 was received by fans. With EA determined to return to the series’ core roots with BF6, buzz among the community couldn’t be higher.
