The Game Awards 2021: Players’ Voice & No Room For Blizzard

The Game Awards 2021 is nearly upon us, and among the categories are Game of the Year, Best Narrative, Best Performance, Best Mobile Game, and Best Action Game, and you can cast your vote now.

WHEN IS THE GAME AWARDS 2021?

The Game Awards 2021 takes place on November 9, and you can expect new game announcements, trailers, showcases, and plenty of reveals.

However, you can now vote for your favorite games of 2021 in the Players’ Voice awards.

The Players’ Voice is a chance for you to vote from 30 games and pick your game of the year.

The voting takes place in three rounds. Round 1 is already finished, with voters selecting from 30 games to nominate those they think should move to the next stage.

Round 2 takes place from December 5 and narrows everything down to ten games.

Round 3 begins on December 7, where voters can choose their favorite game of the year from the remaining five nominees.

The Players’ Voice Award winner is hopefully announced on December 8, one day before The Game Awards 2021.

Nominations include Deathloop, Psychonauts 2, Halo Infinite, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, It Takes Two, and Returnal.

BLIZZARD NOT TAKING PART IN THE GAME AWARDS 2021

It’s been a rough year for Activision Blizzard, and it looks like the many controversies of abuse, harassment, and threats of its employees will follow it into 2022.

In recent months Activision Blizzard staff have staged walkouts, spoken out against their abuse, and signed a petition demanding the removal of CEO Bobby Kotick.

There has been nothing but support for those affected across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Twitch, and other social media platforms.

And as 2021 nears its end, Geoff Keighley has now hinted that the company may not feature at The Game Awards 2021, saying that “We all need to work together to build a better and a more inclusive environment so everyone feels safe to build the world’s best games.”

Keighley’s words follow other companies, such as Microsoft and PlayStation, who are both now reviewing their relationship with the publisher of Call of Duty, Diablo, World of Warcraft, and Hearthstone.
