Developed by Big Bad Wolf and published by Focus Entertainment, The Council is an episodic mystery-themed graphic adventure released on 13th March 2018, completed in December with the fifth and final chapter. Set in 1793, we’ll play as Louis de Richet, invited to be part of a secret society on Lord Mortimer’s private island. He finds himself alongside prominent figures of the time such as Washington and Napoleon, while also having to uncover the mysterious disappearance of his mother.
The Council is certainly a very peculiar title, where Big Bad Wolf’s team has added an RPG system with skill trees and themed classes to a graphic adventure. We have 3 game classes, with 15 abilities, 20 traits, and 44 talents, as well as an exp system and Traits that can be both negative and positive, unbeknownst to the player. This, combined with a plot full of suspense and mystery, from an interesting cast of characters, and where our choices will impact the ending. In fact, there are a whopping 13 different endings, where our actions and choices throughout the game will reflect on the fate of the various characters. Thus providing a good level of replayability to a rather unique experience in the graphic adventure scene, all at a very affordable price.

I played The Council once and was divided about the plot. It started off nicely, as you arrived to a grim island where every person you meet has a secret. It also comes with a choices and consequences feature, and the overall design is amazing. But I feel like the story takes a bizarre turn after the 2nd episode. For the price offered, however, it is a good game to try if you like narrative and non-linear games.
