Halloween is still a long way ahead, and here’s another puzzle platformer to add to your library that perfectly fits the season. Let’s have a look at Tandem: A Tale of Shadows, a puzzle platformer from developer Monochrome Paris and publisher Hatinh Interactive.
What is Tandem: A Tale of Shadows?
Tandem: A Tale of Shadows is a unique platformer that’s played in top down and side-scrolling perspectives. You will take the role of a little girl named Emma who’s on a mission to unveil the mystery behind the disappearance of the famous magician Thomas Kane.
The game lets you control Emma and Fenton, and you can switch between the two characters as needed. Players control Emma in a top-down view, while Fenton is controlled in side-scrolling. You have to be clever with how you switch between each character to effectively solve the puzzle.
Monochrome revealed that the game has over 40 puzzles and obstacles that players need to solve. Emma and Fenton rely on each other in order to solve these — just like Sherlock Holmes and Watson, according to Monochrome.
Emma is armed by a lantern which she uses to illuminate the environment and cast shadows. Fenton, on the other hand, has the power to walk on shadows projected by Emma’s lantern. The developers said new shadow mechanics will be proposed as players discover new universes in the game.
How long is the game?
Monochrome’s Guillaume Nicollet said in an interview with ScreenRant that Tandem: A Tale of Shadows’ average playtime will be somewhere between five to eight hours.
Backward Compatibility on Consoles
The game will be playable on next-gen consoles (Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S) via Backwards Compatibility. There’s no upgrade for next-gen at this time.
