Shenmue 1 and 2

Some time ago, Sega announced that Shenmue 1 and 2 will be returning this year. Although they weren’t getting real remakes or remasters, the re-releases will feature a few improvements including updated graphics and new controller options. Sega has not revealed when they planned to relaunch the Dreamcast classics, but it seems a Microsoft listing might have beat them to it.

The listing for the Australian Microsoft Store for the Shenmue 1 & 2 combo package shows that the games will be released on “20/08/2018”. If that were true, fans just need to wait a month a half before they can start replaying these games.

It is important to note that because Sega has not made any actual announcements regarding the release date for both of these games, it’s hard to confirm whether or not the date on the listing is real. And even if it is real, we also don’t know if the game will be released simultaneously worldwide. The Microsoft Store listing for the US still shows a placeholder date of December 31, 2018.

Shenmue 1 and 2 were revealed earlier this year at Sega Fes in Japan. A third installment has been announced and successfully crowdfunded through Kickstarter, becoming the most-backed video game in Kickstarter. Shenmue 3 was supposed to be released this year for PC and PS4 but publisher Deep Silver has delayed the game to some time in 2019, stating that the extra time will be used to “polish the quality of the game even further…”
