Six months after the last trailer, the GFAGames team is back with a new trailer for Pioner, the MMOFPS that feels like  Stalker and Metro meets Escape from Tarkov.

Pioner is a new MMOFPS-style game developed by GFAGames. Taking us into an alternate reality set amidst Soviet ruins on an island spanning over 50 km². With numerous dungeons to explore, factions to ally with, and plenty of dangers and mysteries.

A game that captures the post-apocalyptic atmosphere of iconic IPs like Metro, Fallout, and Stalker. Delivering a true MMOFPS experience blending PvE and PvP, with a twist: a realistic gameplay approach resembling that of Escape from Tarkov.

Pioner: New Wishlist Trailer and Steam Wishlist Open

Roughly six months after the last trailer, the GFAGames team bring news of Pioner. This new post-apocalyptic MMOFPS is set among Soviet ruins, combining a beloved setting with shooter mechanics similar to Escape from Tarkov in its PvP aspects.

The new Wish Trailer showcases the world of Tartarus, a true post-apocalyptic hell filled with experiments, mutations, and dangers lurking around every corner. Highlighting single-player features like a campaign, NPCs, and PvE missions, along with PvP in specific areas. You can now add it to your Steam Wishlist.

Pioner: What the New Post-Apocalyptic MMOFPS Offers

GFAGames aims to deliver a gaming experience with a proper campaign bolstered by strong PvE elements. It also features PvP gameplay, embodying the essence of a hostile game world. It’s reminiscent of Stalker’s Exclusion Zone, with a Tarkov-style twist.

Open World

An open-world game environment spanning over 50 km², featuring post-apocalyptic landscapes with a strong sci-fi touch. Complete with artifacts, anomalies, and monstrosities.

Campaign

Pioner offers a full-fledged campaign reminiscent of a single-player game, which can also be played with friends. Expect numerous NPCs to interact with, missions, and an immersive lore.

Factions

As an MMOFPS, the game features factions with a reputation system, unlocking various rewards and offering different perspectives on the world of Tartarus.

Weapon Customization and Crafting

Weapon customization will play a vital role, from modern firearms to fully post-apocalyptic creations. The game also includes crafting mechanics for weapons and equipment.

Survival Mechanics

Confirmed survival mechanics include hunger, thirst, and fatigue, adding an extra layer of challenge and realism to exploration.

Pioner: Strong Influences from Various Franchises

GFAGames openly acknowledges the strong influences from several franchises on Pioner. The recent Wishlist Trailer, for instance, hints at clear inspiration from Stalker, with Tartarus resembling Chornobyl’s Exclusion Zone, complete with anomalies, mutations, and Soviet settings.

The game also draws from Fallout, featuring settlements, hostile NPCs reminiscent of Raiders, and clear references to Vaults. The trailer even includes a scene reminiscent of Fallout 3’s Vault 101 exit and a Shishkebab to boot. Certain boss fights also echo elements of the early Borderlands games, while the MMO influences include examples of Survarium, Fallen Earth, Nether: Resurrected, and others.

GFAGames: The Team Behind Pioner and Release Date

GFAGames is a Russian development team founded in 2021, now consisting of over 70 members. Pioner is their first major project, announced in 2021 with an initial release date set for 2024. Since then, the team has received direct support from Tencent.

Originally developed on Unreal Engine 4, Pioner seems to have transitioned to Unreal Engine 5, much like Stalker 2. With a Buy-to-Play model, the game is scheduled to launch on PC in 2025. With plans to later release it on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. While Beta-related news will be announced soon.
