Warner Bros. Games, the LEGO Group, and Lucasfilm Games have released a behind-the-scenes video for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, allowing us to take a look at the work they did on the game’s world.

The developers began by saying it is one of the biggest games they have ever worked on due to the number of planets and locations players can go to. They also included a lot of characters and things to do, that players will find themselves busy throughout the game.

Jonathan Smith, Head of Game at Warner Bros. Studios, said, “In Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, we had an incredible opportunity to build planets. Planets that we’d been to in our imagination, planets that we’d love as fans of these stories across nine movies.” Assistant Game Director Dewi Roberts added that one of their focus when working on the game was freedom, and that they wanted to “blur the lines between open levels and exploration as much as possible in this game so that it felt like one cohesive galaxy.”

What is the difference between LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga deluxe edition?

As an episodic game, players will be able to unlock these planets which they’ll be able to explore. Some of the planets that players can visit include Tatooine, Coruscant, and Bespin.

The game’s lead animator, Mark Crane further adds that the planets are what make the game come to life, saying its sheer scale is “off the chart.” The developers worked hard in making each planet feel alive and unique compared to what it was in the movies.

Is LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga multiplayer?

Art Director Josh Pickering Pick described how they started work on these planets, saying they first went through each one and they discussed color and texture details. Each of the planets have “so much original authentic Star Wars detail,” he adds.

Another thing that the devs featured in their dev diary is the level of detail they did on the characters, vehicles, and items. They made sure that each character is really part of the world they’re in by adding LEGO weathering effects, for example. The vehicles or characters become increasingly dirtier when walking/driving through dirt, or sand/snow get stuck on their shoes or clothes.
