Escape from Tarkov Enjoys Popularity Spike

Escape from Tarkov by Battlestate Games sees an increase in players and Twitch viewers, suggesting that FPS players look for alternative games.

WHY IS ESCAPE FROM TARKOV SO POPULAR RIGHT NOW?

Escape from Tarkov was released into closed beta in July 2017 and has enjoyed bursts of popularity since then.

Looking at the Twitch numbers, we see Tarkov gains a considerable boost in viewers and players in January and July.

It may not be entirely coincidental as July and January tend to be big times of year for discounts, with other platforms such as Steam, Epic Games, GOG, and Origin holding Summer and Winter sales.

This recent spike comes when Escape from Tarkov also has a discount across all its editions and, perhaps more importantly, players are looking for an alternative FPS.

The recent releases of Call of Duty: Vanguard, Halo Infinite, and Battlefield 2042 have seen many frustrated with the lack of evolution in those franchises.

And with battle royale games like PUBG, Fortnite, and Apex Legends not offering anything new, Escape from Tarkov seems to fill the hole between the FPS and battle royale genre.

Another big reason for Tarkov’s popularity boosts in July and January comes after the game’s regular inventory, stats, and progression wipes at the end of June and the middle of December.

Those wipes reset everyone to a blank slate and give everyone a purpose to jump back into the game and try their luck once more.

Add the recent Twitch drops and return of large Twitch streamers like Shroud, and it’s easy to see why Tarkov is currently the second most-streamed game on Twitch.
