Dark fantasy open-world RPG Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon has officially crossed its first anniversary milestone following its 1.0 launch. To mark the occasion, development team Questline and publisher Awaken Realms have rolled out a surprise celebratory update.

The update rewards the community with a suite of free content, underlying mechanical adjustments, and long-requested quality-of-life fixes that refine the core gameplay experience.

What Is Included in the Free Tainted Grail Anniversary DLC?

The free Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon anniversary update introduces a dedicated birthday quest available after completing the Cuanacht storyline. Completing this quest rewards players with five new armor sets, a wand, and a bow. It also features a cosmetic party hat for Qrko and a vendor workaround for the fishing achievement.

The newly added birthday quest takes players on a trail following a mysterious invitation to a secluded celebration dedicated to King Arthur. The rewards are designed to expand build variety across multiple playstyles, offering fresh defensive and offensive options for warriors, mages, and archers alike.

For completionists, the update solves a major community pain point regarding the notorious “Gone Fishing” achievement. According to the official Steam update notes, players who prefer to bypass the manual grind can now simply purchase required fish directly from in-game vendors.

The update also refines the underlying fishing minigame mechanics for traditionalists, introducing two unique items: the Royal Fishing Rod and the Angler’s Cap.

Patch 1.23 Targets Combat Balance and Quest Fixes

Accompanying the anniversary content is Patch 1.23, which directly targets specific community feedback regarding combat balance and progression-blocking bugs. A primary focus of the balance pass is the Sanguine Sting bow ability, which had its health cost doubled from 5 to 10 points.

Its bleeding status effect scaling has also been reworked to prevent game-breaking damage outputs when combined with the newly introduced DLC items. Progression and quest mechanics have received substantial cleanup. Completion of the Lancelot dungeon now properly rewards players with the “Summon Sir Lancelot” ability.

Furthermore, explicit softlocks have been resolved, including an issue within the Sarras DLC where skipping a specific entrance cutscene would freeze game progression entirely.

The user interface has also been streamlined for better navigation. Questline has added a dedicated “Sort Items” keybind for keyboard controls, eliminated overlapping tutorial prompts that obscured quick-use items, and fixed gamepad icon display errors.

Performance optimizations have also been integrated to stabilize frame rates during large-scale combat encounters involving high numbers of concurrent NPCs.

Limited Physical Collector’s Editions and Artovision Shadowboxes Launch

Beyond the digital update, Awaken Realms has launched a highly limited retail run of physical merchandise via Gamefound for dedicated collectors. The distribution includes 500 Collector’s Sets and 1,000 Deluxe Sets. These packages are strictly focused on physical memorabilia and do not include a digital copy of the game.

Additionally, a creative collaboration with Artovision introduces three officially licensed, layered 3D shadowboxes. These displays feature prominent artwork from the game, showcasing King Arthur from the cinematic trailer, Josephus from the Sanctuary of Sarras expansion, and the formidable Mistbearer boss fight.
