A New Coastal Threat Arrives in Hardshell Brook

Odd Bug Studio officially released the Blood and Brine expansion for Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter. The update transports players away from the frozen northern wastes and into a sunlit coastal settlement named Hardshell Brook.

The narrative centers on two shipwrecked sailors, Jaimie and Sam, who recruit Arlo to build an aquarium. The sailors plan to attract visitors and generate enough funds to repair their destroyed vessel. To populate the aquarium, the expansion introduces a dedicated fishing mechanic. Players can cast lines into dangerous waters to catch 32 distinct aquatic creatures.

The developer also expanded the combat system by adding ship arena battles. Players will face enormous oceanic threats on the open water, complementing the 11 new quests and 10 fresh boss encounters available on land.

Which Indie Game Crossovers Are Included in Blood and Brine?

The Blood and Brine expansion includes six crossover armor sets inspired by Blasphemous, Cult of the Lamb, Dave the Diver, Death’s Door, Moonlighter, and Beyond Galaxyland. Odd Bug Studio adapted these iconic designs to fit the hand-drawn medieval aesthetic of the Tails of Iron universe.

Rather than porting the original assets directly, the art team redrew protagonists like The Penitent One and The Lamb. These redesigned outfits function as fully wearable, battle-hardened armor for Arlo. Odd Bug Studio CEO Jack Bennett confirmed the studio wanted to celebrate the broader independent game community.

The developer expressed gratitude to the partnering studios for allowing their characters to enter the Ratdom. These crossover outfits bring the total number of new armor sets in the expansion to nine, offering players enhanced defensive options against the fresh coastal enemies.

Progression Requirements and Platform Availability

United Label published the Blood and Brine update as a completely free addition for all existing players. The expansion is currently live across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms.

Accessing the new coastal region requires significant progression. According to the official Steam patch notes, players must completely finish the main Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter campaign before setting sail for Hardshell Brook. The update features new original music and the return of acclaimed voice actor Doug Cockle as the series narrator.

To coincide with the content launch, digital storefronts temporarily reduced the price of the base game. The PlayStation Blog announcement detailed a 60 percent discount active during the Ready, Set, Play promotion, dropping the cost to under €15.
