Valve finally announces the official launch of Game Recording. The new feature lets you record and share your gaming experiences with friends and other players.
Steam Game Recording – Official Release Discover What It’s All About
Announced on 26 June 2024 with a Beta period, Steam Game Recording finally became available on 5 November 2024. An integrated feature in the Steam Client allows you to record, share, and even edit gameplay right within the Steam Overlay.
Steam Game Recording is now available for everyone. This convenient feature also works with non-Steam games by simply opening Steam, clicking Games > Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library, thus adding Game Recording support for external games.

Steam Game Recording – What Features Are Available?
Steam Game Recording is a powerful tool for users to record and share their gameplay. Here’s what it offers:
Recording
You can set a time or size limit for your recordings. On Demand Recording offers continuous recording with a start and stop button. The Steam Timeline and Event Markers in some games highlight key moments.
Replay
Rewatch footage with rewind options, perfect for reviewing gameplay mistakes or missed details.
Clip
Trim videos to include only the parts you want, then share them instantly from the new Recordings & Screenshots section.
Share
Easily share clips with friends or save them. As well as share from Steam Deck to your PC or mobile, with on-the-fly MP4 conversion.
Steam Game Recording: How to Record Your Gameplay
Access Steam Game Recording easily by pressing Shift+Tab during gameplay to open the Steam Overlay. Or, go to Steam > Settings > Game Recording to customize options.
Find your recordings in the Overlay under Recordings & Screenshots or from the client’s top right menu View > Recordings & Screenshots. Steam Game Recording optimizes performance by using specific GPU features from Nvidia and AMD. While Intel (or other integrated solutions) will process via CPU, with some impact on performance.
