Stardew Valley Surprise Launch on Nintendo Switch 2
Technically, Stardew Valley coming to Nintendo Switch 2 wasn’t a secret. ConcernedApe previously announced the Stardew Valley Nintendo Switch 2 Edition but no exact release date was ever revealed. Fans only got a vague Fall 2025 window and between real-world holiday prep and Stardew Valley’s own seasonal festivals, most players had simply stopped thinking about it.
But maybe that was the plan all along. Because instead of a regular release date announcement, Stardew Valley just showed up on Switch 2 as the ultimate Christmas surprise, turning December 25 into a celebration for fans.
The shadowdrop was first reported by Wario64 and it came with an extra bit of good news as a free upgrade pack is available for everyone who already owns Stardew Valley on Nintendo Switch. It is worth noting though that the upgrade process is only visible when you access it directly from Switch 2 hardware. In other words, you won’t see the upgrade option on the original Switch or when browsing remotely. You need to be on the Switch 2 console itself to claim it.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition comes with a range of improvements designed to make Stardew Valley feel smoother and more modern without changing what players love about it.
One of the standout additions is intuitive mouse controls which makes everyday tasks smoother, especially inventory management and furniture placement. Multiplayer also gets a significant boost.
The Switch 2 Edition supports local split-screen play for up to four players, while online play supports up to eight, doubling the previous limit. The GameShare feature is included too, letting four friends play together even if only one person owns the game.
Stardew Valley originally launched back in 2016, and as we approach its 10-year anniversary in February, it continues to stand tall as one of the best farm-life sims ever made.
