The Overworld Gets a Massive Cuteness Upgrade

Mojang has officially pulled the curtain back on the first major Minecraft drop of 2026. Previously dubbed the “baby mob update” by the community, it now has an official title—Tiny Takeover.

According to the official Minecraft blog, this free update completely overhauls the game’s youngest inhabitants. Over three dozen baby mobs are getting massive visual upgrades.

Expect rounder noses on baby dolphins, chunkier kittens, and entirely new variants for wild and hostile enemies. Even baby villagers are getting new outfits to make them stand out in your local settlements.


Golden Dandelions and Quality of Life Fixes

A visual overhaul is great, but Mojang is packing this update with heavily requested mechanical changes. The standout feature is the brand-new Golden Dandelion.

Feeding this shiny new flower to any baby mob locks them in their juvenile state permanently. If you change your mind and want them to grow up, simply feed them a second Golden Dandelion to reverse the effect.

Name Tags are finally fully craftable, removing the tedious grind of hunting down Overworld chests. You just need paper and any metal nugget to craft one—though be warned, naming your pets now means the game broadcasts a death notification if they meet a tragic end.


Trumpets, Custom Sounds, and Release Window

The audio landscape is getting just as much attention as the visuals. Mojang is implementing custom, pitch-shifted sound effects for all baby variants—puppies yap, kittens squeak, and foals whinny.

Musicians also have a new toy to experiment with. Placing a copper block underneath a note block now creates a Trumpet sound. The specific pitch and tone will change depending on the copper block’s oxidation level.

While Mojang hasn’t locked in a hard release date, historical patch cycles and recent internal teasing point toward a Spring 2026 launch. Start hoarding those gold nuggets now—you are going to need them.
