Capcom Wants to Turn Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney Into Core IPs

Capcom has unveiled plans to turn its classic icon brands, such as Mega Man, Ace Attorney, and Devil May Cry (DMC), into core IPs through remakes, new titles, and ports, aligning them with its other franchises, like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter.

Capcom Wants to Turn Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney Into Core IPs

Capcom COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto has told investors that the company aims to maximize the revenue potential of beloved brands, including Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney, by turning them into core IPs through new mainline entries, spin-offs, remakes, and high-quality multi-platform releases.

Tsujimoto revealed the long-term strategy in Capcom’s 2025 Integrated Report, signalling a commitment to expanding and investing in its loyal fan bases.

Capcom’s Strategy: Consistent Content Pipeline

In the report, Tsujimoto states the company wants to “expand our user base and improve our performance through new releases, remakes, and ports of titles in these series to new hardware.”

Developing Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney into core IPs suggests an end to long release droughts that alternate between new mainline entries, spin-offs, and remakes or remasters.

Diverse Approaches for Diverse IPs

While Capcom does not go into specifics, its plans for each IP is likely to differ to fit the unique markets of each title.

  • Mega Man: It will be interesting to see where Capcom focuses, as Mega Man features several major subseries, including Classic, Legends, Zero, and ZX. Fans could potentially see continued porting of legacy collections to modern consoles.
  • Devil May Cry: Given the success of DMC 5, there will likely be a focus on delivering quicker sequels and new spin-offs, like a Vergil standalone title.
  • Ace Attorney: Continuing the mainline visual novel series will be a main focus, while fans may alo receive localization and modern ports of previously region-locked spin-offs.

Beyond Games: IP Integration and Merchandising

Achieving core IP status is also about expanding the brand beyond video game sales, with Capcom potentially eyeing an aggressive push toward high-end merchandise, animated series, and movies.

A wider media presence will aim to attract new players who may be unfamiliar with the original video games. At the same time, additional revenue will allow for the creation of new, high-quality content.

A Long-Term Commitment to Mega Man, DMC, and Ace Attorney

Capcom has stated its commitment to making Mega Man, DMC, and Ace Attorney core IPs. It’s a huge win for fans as it signals a long-term, multi-platform strategy that will see beloved heroes and iconic franchises receive more frequent content.
