Call of Duty on Switch 2: Release Window and Details Revealed

New reports suggest that Call of Duty will be launching on the Nintendo Switch 2 “in a few months,” following Microsoft’s commitment to support the platform for ten years.

Call of Duty on Switch 2: Release Window and Details Revealed

The Microsoft and Nintendo 10-year pledge promised “full feature and content parity” for Call of Duty players. Yet, as the Switch 2 release window tightens, fans face a wall of silence.

The historic agreement signed in February 2023 guarantees the franchise launches on Nintendo hardware, and WindowsCentral’s Jez Cordon has told fans on X that he believes the “CoD Switch version is nearly done.”

Call of Duty: Launch Title or 2026 Release?

Conflicting reports currently dominate the news cycle regarding Activision’s rollout plan. Initial expectations pointed to a day-and-date release with the new console, but fresh leaks suggest a slight delay.

Recent insider reports, including data from Windows Central’s Jez Corden, indicate the first native port is “nearly done” but targets a 2026 release. This contradicts earlier aggressive rumors that pegged CoD as a definitive launch title.

The disparity likely stems from the development scope. A simple port of Warzone could hit the launch window, while a premium entry like Black Ops 7 (or the 2026 mainline title) demands more optimization time.

CoD on NS2: Analyzing Performance Potential

Bringing a modern Call of Duty to a handheld requires smart tech, not just raw horsepower. The original Switch failed to run these titles because its mobile chipset lacked the necessary architecture. However, the Switch 2 is a much better console, capable of running the most demanding titles.

Leaks suggest the new hardware supports NVIDIA’s DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling). This feature is critical. It allows the device to render the game at a lower internal resolution (like 720p) and use AI to upscale it to a crisp 1080p or 4K when docked. This tech essentially lets a portable device punch above its weight class.

Without DLSS, achieving the “parity” Microsoft promised would be impossible without severely downgrading the graphics.

The hardware gap between a PS5 and a handheld remains physical, but software solutions like DLSS bridge that divide effectively for shooters where frame rate matters most.

Verdict: What Should Fans Expect?

The 10-year agreement makes a Call of Duty release on Switch 2 a guarantee, not a hope. However, the timing suggests a 2026 arrival rather than a launch-day surprise. Delivering a smooth, 60fps experience matters more than hitting day one.

Do you think a handheld Call of Duty can truly compete with the console experience?
