Age of Wonders 4’s stunning high-fantasy tapestry immediately captured my imagination. It wasn’t long before I was creating my own undead army and marching across the land, leaving chaos and decay in my wake.

Triumph Studio is back with its 4X Age of Wonders and a return to its roots after Planetfall which didn’t work as well as Paradox would have liked. The studio thus offers the new version of its 4X, Age of Wonders 4, which comes with a turn-based combat system that is accessible at first, but rather advanced and demanding as the adventure progresses. One of the biggest changes concerns the 3D environments, which have been very carefully worked on to reinforce immersion and an unexpected RPG dimension that gives the game a sense of depth. One of the game’s strong points is the extremely advanced customisation of the way we play. Indeed, you can pre-design your race and your empire to your liking, as well as your play style and the direction you give to your adventure (choice of spells, situations with several choices and possible outcomes, etc.).
The art direction is pleasant, it is readable and rather pretty. We’re immersed in a fantasy universe here, so it’s up to you to decide whether you prefer an elven, cannibal, sociable or tribal faction… and it’s up to you to see what direction you want your society to take! So there are quite a few strong points to highlight. It is a success. The only problem Paradox is working hard on is the multiplayer (co-op, servers…) which has had a very bad launch, but updates are already on the way to correct this.
