The Square Enix team has recently released the new trailer for Visions of Mana, an accolade trailer featuring the score from major journalistic outlets within the first 2 weeks of its launch. A launch that marks the return of this classic series after an absence of over 15 years.

With a new post-launch trailer released on 9th September, Square Enix showcases a brief introduction to Visions of Mana. The latest installment in the Mana series, nearly 17 years after the release of the last entry, Dawn of Mana, in 2007. Offering an action RPG in typical Square Enix style, with an action-packed adventure and an intriguing storyline, once again centered around the Mana Tree. The story follows protagonist Val and his childhood friend Hinna on a pilgrimage to the Tree for the ritual necessary to allow the Mana to flow.


Visions of Mana – Players’ Opinions

Despite a certain level of interest from players, Visions of Mana did not achieve the numbers Square had hoped for. After an absence of over 15 years, many new players are not particularly attached to the franchise, which has mostly seen remasters and remakes. In an especially saturated action RPG market, and with the total absence of a co-op mode, a longstanding feature of the series. Combined with a disappointing lack of availability on Nintendo Switch, caused little interest in the game despite the general positive consensus on the game.


Visions of Mana – News from Ouka Studio and the Future of the Series

Unfortunately, it seems that the fate of the developer, Ouka Studio, is sealed. In fact, it appears that the giant NetEase, which owns the studio, is slowly pulling away from the Japanese market, having already cut numerous positions from the team over the past year. Although there have been no official statements, sources from Bloomberg claim that the team will be relegated to supporting their latest games before being dissolved. This is particularly sad news, considering the team was founded only in 2020, and with the poor sales of Visions of Mana, Square Enix will likely refrain from bringing a new Mana series game in the near future.
