While the specific U.S. retailer behind the leak hasn’t been named, a new report from Insider-Gaming reveals internal emails and documents suggesting that preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 are set to begin on April 9. According to the report, the retailer is already expecting preorders to sell out quickly, despite having what’s described as a large initial stock.
This is in contrast to an earlier leak from Best Buy Canada which pointed to April 2 as the preorder date. But both dates still play an important role in the timeline though.
That’s because April 2 is the date of a special Nintendo Direct, focused entirely on the Switch 2. And as per the same Insider-Gaming report, the internal documents outline a marketing strategy tied to the event which includes the messaging “Pre-order Coming Soon” and a countdown timer set to end on April 9. The documents also mention an exclusive collectible coin for those who preorder.
