Big Year Ahead: GTA VI, Borderlands 4, and Mafia Confirmed for 2025 Release!

Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that GTA VI, Borderlands 4, and Mafia: The Old Country will release in 2025. Next year is shaping up to be an explosive year for gamers, with blockbuster titles hitting consoles and PCs.


In the recent Take-Two Interactive Software Q2 2025 earnings report, the parent company of Rockstar Games and 2K Games, confirms GTA VI, Borderlands 4, and Mafia: The Old Country all plan to release by the end of Fiscal Year 2026, which ends on March 31, 2026.

These upcoming releases are amongst the most highly-anticipated games of 2025, with GTA V launching in 2013, Borderlands 3 in 2019, and Mafia 3 in 2016, respectively. Development ramps up on the next installments in these franchises, and the desperation from fans to play them is growing.

Grand Theft Auto VI – What We Know So Far

GTA VI was first officially announced in 2023 with the record-breaking GTA VI Trailer 1, which now has over 217 million views on YouTube. 2025 will mark 12 years since the last game in the series, GTA V released, which has become one of the most successful entertainment products ever, generating over $8.6 billion in revenue. GTA V’s unprecedented success has seen it re-released and enhanced on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Rockstar’s upcoming GTA VI has the largest map in the franchise’s history, with the fictional State of Leonida a massive 125 square kilometers. Developer Hangar 13 is attempting to inject some life back into the Mafia series with an upcoming soft reboot. Set in 1900s Sicily, Mafia: The Old Country is a prequel exploring organized crime and its origins.

Unveiled at Gamescom 2024, Mafia: The Old Country focuses on authenticity with its setting and Sicilian voice acting. In line with the Mafia trilogy, The Old Country is a narrative-driven action game with atmospheric storytelling. Coming to PS5, Xbox series X|S, and PC in Fiscal Year 2026, Hangar 13 plans to reveal more about Mafia: The Old Country in December 2024.

Borderlands 4 – New Worlds, New Gear

2K Games revealed Borderlands 4 at Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2024, but has since been light on details. What we know about Borderlands 4 is that there are four new Vault Hunters, with each one a unique force within the game’s ever-changing world.

During Pax West, the developers showed off some Borderlands 4 concept art, speaking how the game’s going back to the series’ roots. Narrative director Sam Winkler told the crowd: “We want to make sure the player and the vault hunters are the central characters of our story. We want to make sure the world is reactive, that the world is grounded.” After the Borderlands movie criticisms earlier this year, Winkler assures fans that the humor will be “situational” and emerge “naturally.”

Borderlands 4 could focus more on RPG aspects while still maintaining the fast-paced action of previous games. In truth, we know little about Borderlands 4 other than it features a reactive world that changes with player decisions. We don’t have a firm release date, but Borderlands 4 will arrive on console and PC by March 31, 2026.
