With Square Enix’s decision to adopt the HD-2D style introduced with Octopath Traveler, they’re bringing the first remake of the series with DQ3 on 14 November 2024. Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake: Gameplay Overview
With a launch scheduled for late October for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, the Square Enix team is dropping new details. The remake of the first two chapters of the famous Dragon Quest series, recreated in HD-2D style, comes in a two-in-one package packed with new stuff. The title is set to release on 30 October 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, and PC.
They’re giving us a detailed Gameplay Overview, taking us back to the series’ past, now graphically revamped with a style that’s both modern and nostalgic. It’s full of new things, including new areas to explore, characters, and enemies. You’ll face the awakening of the Dragonlord in the first game. Then continue with the threat of Hargon in the second. Following the adventures of the descendants of the hero Erdrick.
DQ I & II HD-2D Remake: The Main New Features
As confirmed by the Overview, we’re getting a ton of new additions and quality-of-life improvements to the game experience, with a special focus on DQ2. While exploring the world of Alefgard, it offers:
- Dragon Quest I: Full of new areas and secrets. But also new encounters, giving you the chance to meet fairies and dwarves, plus classic and brand-new enemies for your solo journey.
- Dragon Quest II: Will see, among its main new features, the addition of the Princess of Cannock as a new playable party member. She’ll bring magic and sword skills to the team, with new items and skills ready to be used.
Not to mention the availability in both titles of Sigils, originally only in DQ2. With Scrolls to learn Skills instead of through leveling up. As well as easier navigation, thanks to markers, a minimap, and auto-saves. And including text localizations in various languages and English and Japanese voice-overs.
Furthermore, if you have a sigil, it will have various effects during battle when certain conditions are met!
