Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy is the new tactical RPG title in development by Owlcat Games. The development studio founded in 2016 and based in Cyprus. The studio is especially known for the Pathfinder series, based on the tabletop RPG of the same name. But also for the acclaimed WH40K: Rogue Trader from 2023.
With Dark Heresy, they’re bringing a similar experience, but adding an investigative component to the tactical RPG mix. All wrapped up in a strong dark tone, which also applies to the moral choices you’ll make in line with the laws of the Inquisition. The World of Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy From the Story Trailer
The team at Owlcat Games is sharing new details on Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy. The new isometric cRPG adventure will cast you as an Acolyte of the Inquisition in the world of 40K. It was first revealed at Warhammer Skulls 2025 back in May. The release date is still to be announced, but it’s confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
They dropped a new video that briefly explains the game, introducing a new story to the vast and beloved world of WH40K, in a tactical and investigative RPG adventure. It’s got a heavy dark tone, and your moral choices will lead you down different paths. Set in the Calixis Sector, you’ll carry out the Inquisitor’s orders as his acolyte, fighting a war in the shadows.
What We Know About Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy
Following the success of Rogue Trader, the Owlcat Games team is offering a new story and location this time. They’re taking us to the Calixis Sector, an Imperial sector in the Milky Way. Once a beacon of the Imperium’s power, it’s now corrupted from within. You’ll be part of an investigation that will lead you to uncover the mysteries and threats hiding in the dark.
You’ll face the impending threat of the Tyrant Star, an anomaly that threatens to destroy and plunge the world into shadows. You’ll also be up against the sinister Night Lords, traitor Space Marines who serve as the main antagonists. Dark Heresy will also boast even more detailed character models. In fact, the team even showed us the creative process for the models, starting from 2D drawings.
