Highly anticiapted kung-fu action game, Phantom Blade Zero, has gotten a brand-new animated trailer to celebrate the Chinese New Year and bring in the Year of the Dragon. Check it out below.
Is Phantom Blade Zero a PS5 exclusive?
Phantom Blade Zero is a spiritual rebirth of a series of games called Rain Blood, a fast-paced 2D hack and slash game originally designed using RPG maker. Now, using Unreal Engine 5, S-Game founder and game developer Soulframe Liang has created the game he had always envisioned.
Set in Phantom World, Chinese Kungfu, steampunk machines, the occult, and different powers collide in a bleak, semi-open world. As Soul, an assassin serving in “The Order,” you’ll find yourself betrayed and framed for the murder of the head of The Order. Mortally wounded, you escape, but time is running out, and the only way to find answers is by fighting with what little life you have left.
Phantom Blade Zero pays homage to classic martial arts films and games such Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden and it even has the help of Kenji Tanigaki, stuntman and director who has worked on films like Dragon (2011), Once Upon a Time in China V (1994), and Fist of Legend (1994).
There’s not a lot to go on as we don’t know the complete story and we haven’t had much on gameplay, but going off the initial trailer and the new Year of the Dragon Special Trailer, we are looking at game similar to Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Nioh with lightning fasted melee combat, destructible environments, and some really impressive handcrafted animation.
Can I play Phantom Blade Zero for free before its official release?
We don’t have a release date for Phantom Blade Zero, and don’t expect one anytime soon. S-Game do plan on releasing it late 2024 and it will be a PS5 exclusive to begin with. A PC release could follow in 2025.
In slightly better news, there is a planned demo for 2024. But the bad news is that the developers have not announced a release date. For now, you’ll have to bookmark us to find out when the demo launches and when Phantom Blade Zero gets a release date.
