The race for dominance on the Nintendo Switch 2 continues. Mario Kart World just dropped its first major patch of 2026, Update 1.5.0, addressing one of the community’s biggest requests for competitive play.
MK World Team Racing in Knockout Tour
Nintendo EPD started the year by listening to the multiplayer fanbase. The standout feature in version 1.5.0 is the addition of Team Races to the Knockout Tour (often called Survival mode). Previously, this battle-royale-style elimination mode forced players to fend for themselves.
Now, whether you are in Online Play or using Wireless Play locally, you can group up. This changes the dynamic entirely, allowing skilled players to shield teammates from elimination. It finally brings the cooperative chaos of traditional Mario Kart team modes into the high-stakes Knockout arena.
Team Battles have come to Knockout Tour in #MarioKartWorld! Drive to survive with (or against) friends in two, three or four teams online, via local wireless or over LAN play.

Critical Fixes for Mario Kart World
Beyond new modes, this patch stabilizes the experience. A bizarre crash involving Kamek on the Choco Mountain track previously forced the game to close unexpectedly. Nintendo confirmed this specific interaction is now resolved, so Kamek mains can race without fear of a software crash.
Online grinders also get a fix for the rating display bug. Before today, joining a “Everyone” lobby while in a room would often show incorrect rank data. This visual glitch is gone, ensuring your hard-earned competitive rating displays accurately.
Also, players in Poland gain full native language support, expanding the game’s accessibility in Europe.

Verdict: Time to Jump In Mario Kart World?
Mario Kart World remains the essential couch co-op title for the Switch 2, but its launch price was steep. With six months of polish and robust updates like 1.5.0 adding depth to multiplayer, the value proposition is rising.
If you waited for the initial bugs to vanish and the meta to settle, now is the smart time to buy. The addition of Team Knockout makes it far friendlier for groups with mixed skill levels.
Have you tried the new Team Knockout mode yet, or is the classic Grand Prix still your go-to?
