Windows 11 Pro Becomes the Best OS For PC Gamers
April 26, 2022 | Gaming News Windows 11 is now the best operating system for PC gaming, and we’ve put together a little article on its key features right here.
In this article, we explore the different editions of Windows 11 and find out if gamers need Windows 11 Pro or if Windows 11 Home is enough.
By Daniel
Windows 11 is Microsoft’s next version of their operating system and comes with a whole range of new features to satisfy everyone, whether it’s for business, gaming, or casual use.
Windows 11 sees massive updates to the Start Menu, Microsoft Store, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Edge, and more.
You can now also download Android apps on Windows 11, access and personalize widgets directly from the Taskbar, and more easily set up virtual desktops for work, school, or gaming.
All the new and redesigned features come packed into a newly designed UI which includes more rounded corners, snap groups and snap layouts for apps, and a new Windows setup experience.
There are many things to like about the new operating system, but what does it mean for gamers?
With Windows 11, Microsoft has finally admitted that gamers are a huge target audience for them, and with that in mind, Windows 11 is built using Direct Storage., Auto HDR, and an improved Game Mode.
DirectStorage
DirectStorage is a massive game-changer for Windows 11, as it streamlines the processing of game data to reduce game load times.
At first, that may not seem like such an impressive feature, but those load times are not just when the game is loading up but also for cutscenes and asset loading in open-world scenarios.
DirectStorage can do this because it utilizes modern storage hardware, such as NVMe SSDs, to reduce the load on the CPU by directly loading assets using the graphics card.
The new technology will improve game performance and allow the computer to multitask much more efficiently while playing games, ideal for those who like to stream or have multiple monitors.
Auto HDR
Auto HDR can currently be found in Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S consoles and is a Windows 11 exclusive feature.
Auto HDR improves color and detail by increasing the range of color and luminance for a more immersive and realistic scene.
It does this by darkening shadows and brightening lights, such as sun rays, to make images appear more detailed.
Auto HDR will support games that run with DirectX 11 and DirectX 12.
Game Mode
Game Mode is nothing new on the Windows operating system, as you can find and use it now on Windows 10. However, users get varied results when playing games with it activated.
On Windows 11, Game Mode has seen a huge update that Microsoft promises will fix many previous issues.
Game Mode works by preventing Windows Update from sending notifications, performing driver installations, and limiting background activity.
Extra resources are given to the game to allow for improved frame rate stability. As a result, the mode can benefit those playing on older hardware or using minimum requirements.
Windows 11, just like Windows 10, will launch in a few editions, but what we want to know is, do gamers need Windows 11 Pro?
Let’s look at a few of the main features of both versions and see how gamers can benefit.
Security
Windows 11 Pro comes with better security as it aims to improve defenses for businesses by supporting BitLocker encryption and launching with Windows Information Protection (WIP).
For gamers, these extra layers of security, although nice, are not needed, as antivirus software and a VPN will reduce the risk of being hacked.
CPU
So far, the minimum system requirements remain the same for both the Windows 11 Home and Windows 11 Pro versions.
Windows 11 Pro users will support multiple CPU sockets to allow for two CPUs with a combined CPU core count of 128. Windows Home only supports a single CPU and 64 CPU cores.
The limit of a single CPU should not be a factor for gamers, though, particularly with the improved Game Mode and the new DirectStorage feature as resources will be better managed when playing games.
RAM
For those who love to boast about the amount of RAM their gaming PC has, Windows 11 Home will support 128GB of RAM, whereas Windows 11 Pro supports up to 2TB.
At the moment, 128GB is more than most gamers will ever have, and really, there is no benefit of going that high if you are using your computer exclusively for games.
Price
indows 11 Home is free for those that already have Windows 10 and meet the system requirements, whereas Windows 11 Pro has no official price yet.
Windows 11 is a significant upgrade over Windows 10, and gamers will receive massive improvements after updating.
For any gamer, Windows 11 Home will be the perfect edition to use, as Windows 11 Pro is aimed at businesses and does not add any extra benefit when running games.
