Yes, you read it correctly. If you purchase Helldivers 2 on Steam from May 6 onwards, you’ll need to link your Steam account with a PSN account. PlayStation Studios, or Sony, is the publisher of Helldivers 2, and they aim to maintain game security through this measure. If you’re already playing Helldivers 2, you have until June 4 to link your accounts. After this time, you won’t be able to continue playing without linking your accounts.

Initially, this was supposed to happen at the game’s release, but due to high player numbers and some technical issues, it wasn’t possible. In their Steam post, the developers state that the “grace period” is now over and linking accounts is now mandatory.
Creating a PSN account is free and you can do it here easily. It’s purported to enhance players’ experience, although a large portion of players is now upset. By linking accounts, Sony aims to prevent griefing and better ban those who misbehave.
Firstly, it’s naturally annoying to have to create a new account. I have bought Helldivers 2 a while ago and now they are making me create a PSN account.
This is an action I’m not happy with, but I believe the turmoil around the game comes way back.
Loads of unsolved bugs, unbalanced weapons and stratagems, a useless anti-cheat engine and the deplorable mod behaviour on their discord surely are also reasons of why fans are discontent with the state of the game.
