Exploring Pywel: The Expansive World of Crimson Desert

This new game by Pearl Abyss takes us to the continent of Pywel, a medieval fantasy world teeming with life. Here, you play as Kliff, one of the leaders of the Greymane Order, seeking ancient artifacts fallen from the sky that hold the key to stopping a dangerous return of a mysterious force. Offering a lively game world, not just filled with various enemies and rival orders, but also populated by numerous NPCs and factions.

The game world places a strong emphasis on exploration, providing not only mounts like horses but also magical abilities such as Crow Wings to gliding from high places. Delivering an action RPG and open world experience that certainly recalls many elements of The Witcher 3, but also more typical fantasy and magical aspects like those seen in Zelda: Breath of The Wild. All of this is accompanied by a story filled with mysteries, as you uncover more about Pywel and what fate has in store for the protagonist.


Crimson Desert: A Unique Blend of Action and RPG Elements

Crimson Desert clearly stands apart from Pearl Abyss’s previous offerings like Black Desert. It provides a true single-player Action RPG experience, utilizing the now-standard formula of light and heavy attacks, with dodges and parries. The showcase not only starts with a fight between Kliff and the fearsome Black Bears forces, but also features battles against Mathias of the Freeswords and finally against the fierce leader of the Goldleaves, Split Horn. These battles highlight the powerful impact of hits and combos, where weapon and equipment stats will undoubtedly play a significant role.

But it’s not just about combat; by interacting with certain NPCs, you can unlock new quests, some of which appear to have consequences in the game world, such as the fate of the Goldleaves following your duel with their leader. In short, what’s shown in this new Crimson Desert video seems convincing, offering a lively open world and a mysterious, intriguing story. The release date is still to be officially announced, but according to Insider Korea, a launch window is expected in 2025 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
