Following widespread criticism from players and creators, the publisher has decided to remove one of its most controversial features. It’s a rare example of a community response leading to a quick reversal from a major publisher.

EA Sports College Football 27 officially launched on July 9, 2026, with football fans eager to jump in as soon as the game unlocked. However, instead of praises, the game received intense backlash due to microtransactions that help players level up faster, a feature that was never mentioned before.

While this isn’t the first time a game was in hot waters over paid progression options, this is one of the very few instances that a publisher backtracked and reversed the contested feature.
