FATAL FRAME / PROJECT ZERO: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a traditional Japanese single-player action-adventure horror game developed by KOEI TECMO GAMES CO., LTD. The fourth game of the fatal frame franchise was originally released for the Wii in 2008 this version of the game is a remaster with upgraded graphics. Unravel Rōgetsu Islands’ secret past by exploring western-style mansions and abandoned hospitals, and discover relics like old newspapers and notes. But be careful you will be confronted by the spirits of the people who used to live here.
Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a finely polished, absolutely worthwhile remaster of the fourth game in the franchise, with excellent sound and visuals, fun mechanics, and a genuinely haunting story, held back from a higher score only by its outdated controls and sluggish character movement.
There is a lot of potential for renewed interest in the franchise, and despite gripes to be had with Mask of the Lunar Eclipse’s remaster, the game itself still holds up as a solid horror game.

Project Zero embodies the horror classics of the 2000s. It’s still by Koei, and it’s back.
Whether you like it or not, this one is a real reference that landed more than 20 years ago on our consoles (PS2, or the 1st Xbox). The atmosphere was crazy for its time, with a breathtaking story (that doesn’t unravel too quickly), an innovative gameplay, and clearly… we were scared! At least, I was scared, I was young, but it gave me the creeps. The atmosphere was really good. This is a remake of the 4th opus that only the Wii hosted, with the emphasis on Traditional Japan. Maybe not the most famous on of all. Here we learn more about Professor Aso. You have to like to evolve in a hospital environment though, you’ve been warned! The lighting effects are correct.
I can’t wait to get my hands on it again, I couldn’t play the 4th one, but the first 3 were very good, and the reviews are quite positive!
Japanese survival horror game where you have to defeat ghosts by shooting them with the magical camera obscura. This is a remaster of a game released for the Wii in 2008. There is an extensive story and 4 characters to play. Set on the fictional island of Rougetsu, the story focuses on Ruka Minazuki, one of a group of girls who was held captive on the island for unknown reasons. Years after their rescue, still suffering from amnesia, Ruka and the two surviving girls return to the island to find out the truth.
Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a survival horror game developed by Tecmo and Grasshopper Manufacture.
The game is set on Rougetsu Island, a secluded Japanese island with a dark and mysterious past. The main character is a young girl named Ruka, who is searching for her missing brother. Along the way, she discovers a haunted mask that has the power to reveal hidden spirits and supernatural beings. Ruka must use this power to navigate the island and uncover its secrets, while avoiding the malevolent spirits that haunt its every corner.
The gameplay revolves around using a camera, known as the Camera Obscura, to capture images of the ghosts and spirits that inhabit the island. Players must line up shots carefully and use various types of film to defeat these spirits, as well as solve puzzles and explore the island to progress through the story.
The game is known for its eerie atmosphere, haunting soundtrack, and challenging gameplay. It is considered a classic of the survival horror genre, and a must-play for fans of horror games and Japanese folklore.
The remake of the 4th entry in the Fatal Frame (known as Project Zero in Japan) released for the first time on the Wii back in 2008, FATAL FRAME: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is just like the rest of the series, a survival-horror game focused on the exploration of a haunted place and a female character equipped with an old camera able to banish spirits, who’s objective is to resolve the mystery of the place, sometimes connected to the protagonist herself.
Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is set in the 1980, after the events unfolded a decade prior resulting into the kidnapping of the protagonist, Ruka Minazuki, along with other 4 girls. Although the kidnapping was resolved and the girls were rescued they also lost the memories of the events. And after hearing that two of the survivor died in mysterious circumstances, Misaki Aso and Madoka Tsukimori, two of the 3 remaining survivors, decided to go investigate the island where those even unfolded, Rougetsu.
Leading to our protagonist trying to find their whereabouts after being told by her mother not to go.
It will be rather interesting seeing how this remake will fare, not to mention this is has been a japan only exclusive for the last 15 years, so this will be the first time everyone will get to enjoy the game with all the modern featurers and a reworked graphic. As per usual the game will have only cosmetics dlcs, featuring some “classic” costumes along with other Koei owned IP costumes later, currently sporting the early purchase outfit of Marie Rose from the DoA franchise, for Ruka.
As per every Fatal Frame game, they aren’t connected to one other except for some loose ends or nods here and there, so it’s not compulsory to buy Maiden of Black Water before this.
Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is an adventure/action horror game by Koei Tecmo Games, the game was originally released in 2008 and now gets a remastered version. With improved graphics, new snap mode for the camera and new costumes we can experience this story about a group of children who disappeared from Rogetsu Island. Now, as teenagers we will have to explore the island to uncover the mystery, armed only with a special camera to fend off and capture the ghosts haunting it.
