Death Stranding 2: Release, Gameplay Changes & PS5 Exclusivity at a Glance

The game once again relies on a cinematic storytelling style with unusual gameplay and strong symbolism. The story begins in Mexico and takes you through post-apocalyptic landscapes, including Australia. Death Stranding 2 Gameplay: New Features, Combat & Traversal

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach introduces many new features. One of them is the addition of monorails, allowing you to travel quickly across large map areas. Other new mechanics include hacking, contextual combat, active enemy engagement, and even boss fights.

The environment is much more interactive. It changes due to weather effects, a day-night cycle, and enemy threats. You’ll need to adapt your approach—either fight or bypass them. There are boss battles, but if you’d rather just walk like in the first game, you can skip them and watch a cinematic summary.

What Has Changed Since Part 1

Death Stranding 2 makes a bold move towards more action and freedom. The world is larger, and thanks to the new monorails, you can explore even more. The first game leaned more heavily into being a “walking simulator” focused on isolation and calm. The sequel now allows for multiple playstyles—you can freely choose between stealth, direct confrontation, or evasion.

Combat is more tactical, but also more action-packed. There are dodge mechanics, combos, and new weapons to defeat enemies. At the core of the game is the relationship between Sam and Lou, which offers many emotional interactions. Of course, the game also looks visually stunning—thanks to the PlayStation 5 hardware. Expect more realistic animations, facial expressions, and environmental effects.

PS5 Exclusivity & Edition Breakdown

Sony once again relies on console exclusivity with Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. It’s not yet clear how long the game will remain exclusive before coming to PC, but expect at least a year. On PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, the game runs at 60 FPS with ray tracing and reduced loading times.
