CD Projekt Red To Begin Work On New Witcher Trilogy
CD Projekt Red’s joint CEO Adam Badowski has told Reuters that the video game developer plans to begin the production phase of the new Witcher trilogy later this year.
CD Projekt Polaris to Enter Production Phase
The next Witcher game codenamed ‘Polaris,’ will be part of a new trilogy set in the franchise’s medieval fantasy world. Badowski told Reuters that by the end of 2024, they expect to have roughly 400 people working on the new game.
It’s big news for Witcher fans as the series has sold over 75 million copies since its first title was released in October 2007. It will also be the first game since the Netflix series featuring Henry Cavill, with the company looking to bolster its sales with some of the Netflix audience.
CDPR will also hope to avoid the buggy launch that Cyberpunk 2077 suffered from, with the studio expanding and improving its facilities. However, a buggy launch hasn’t prevented Cyberpunk 2077 from being a success story after the company announced it had reached 25 million sales last October.
When Will New Witcher Game Release?
Badowski didn’t give Reuters an exact release date, but with it moving into the production phase sometime this year, we expect to release in late 2026 or 2027. That may seem a long wait, but CD Projekt is also working on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed, ‘Orion.’ We may have to wait a few years for a CDPR game, but they should be frequent once we hit 2026.
