Design Director Bob Roberts and QA Analyst Ellie Knapp took to the stage to demo some key features of the new Nemesis System, touching upon other gameplay mechanics along the way.

The pair started off by showing how the Nemesis System can be used to create missions that are crucial in preparing for a fortress assault. Followers can be sent off to ambush key members of a warchief’s guards or infiltrate their ranks and become a spy.

The demo also showed off some new skills players will have in their arsenal to help them traverse the map more quickly and finish off multitudes of orcs more efficiently.

They capped off the demo by attempting a fortress assault but had to take a dive due to time constraints. Roberts ended by noting that death is a crucial component of the Nemesis System and enables the game to weave different stories as the players progress.

After the demo, Eurogamer’s Johnny Chiodini joined Roberts on the stage for a quick Q&A.

Middle Earth Shadow of War will be coming to PC, Xbox One and PS4 on 10 October.

I’m still hyped even with the microtransactions controversy. The new Nemesis System looks better. This is going to be a really good game.
