Warner Bros. Games has released a statement about the confusion that surrounded the Middle Earth Shadow of War Forthog DLC. Earlier this month, WB Games has announced that they are releasing the DLC in remembrance of Michael Forgey, a producer from Monolith Games.

In their previous announcement, the publisher has stated that “WB Games will donate $3.50 of every Forthog Orc Slayer purchase to the Forgey family through December 31, 2019.” This statement led people to think that the donation will only be coming from the DLC sales in the United States. This was later clarified by another WB representative, saying that all proceeds will go to the Forgey family regardless where the sale was made. They also said that neither Monolith nor WB Games will profit from the DLC’s sales.

The confusion has been finally cleared, though, as Warner Bros. Games released an official statement saying the Middle Earth Shadow of War Forthog DLC is now free for those who own Middle Earth Shadow of War. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, in turn, will donate money to the Forgey family directly.

We now recognize that tying our donation to sales of the DLC was not the best way to achieve our goal of offering financial support to the family and creating a lasting memorial to Michael Forgey.  We sincerely apologize to the fans and to the Forgey family for the confusion we created.

To ensure the two original aims are still met and to provide transparency to the community, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will instead make a donation directly to the Forgey family. The DLC will be withdrawn from sale and will be a free download for owners of Middle-earth: Shadow of War.  Anyone who has purchased the DLC will receive a full refund.  If there is interest in donating directly to the family, please visit their youcaring site: https://www.youcaring.com/michael-forgey-479259.

Great. This should have never been an issue in the first place, and I’m glad that the family will be getting a full donation no matter what instead of having to hope that people buy the DLC.
