NetherRealm has done something game companies haven’t been able to do a long time — surprise gamers. They revealed the new characters coming to Injustice 2 in a new trailer for Fighter Pack 3 and the set includes an awesome team of fighters straight out of your childhood — the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The trailer starts of with the scene teased by Ed Boon on Twitter where Black Manta lies on the ground with a drum of oil spilling near a smoking cigarette. Another character’s hand was included in the teaser image which has now been revealed to be Raiden’s. It goes on to show who beat up the two — Atom.
Atom then faces of with the second addition for the pack — Enchantress. Just as the two prepare to throw down, a sai falls right between them and an oddly-shaped stranger in a trench coat approaches from the shadows. This is where fans got the biggest surprise in the franchise’s history. You can watch the reveal trailer below.
The reveal has garnered mixed reactions from fans. A lot of players had been requesting different characters, the most popular of which have been Spawn, Constantine, Rorschach and Beast Boy. Some are happy with the inclusion of the half-shelled warriors while others would have preferred somebody from DC’s ensemble.
Some also argue that the Ninja Turtles don’t belong in the game as they don’t have anything to do with DC. It should be pointed out though that Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michael Angelo did team up with Batman in a crossover series that ran from December 2015 to May 2016, with a sequel slated to start in December. Also, the game has several other guest characters, albeit mostly from Mortal Kombat.
Regardless of all the hate and hype, NetherRealms has definitely made an interesting choice. Ed boon has also hinted that more characters may come to the fighter in the future even though only three Fighter Packs were confirmed. Here’s to hoping they continue to surprise fans.
Atom will be added to the roster on December 12th, Enchantress in January, and the Ninja Turtles in February. Injustice 2 is already out for Xbox One and PS4, and is coming to PC on November 14.
In just a few days, the dark and gritty DC 2D fighter, Injustice 2, will finally wake its way to PC. The Steam beta is currently live for 1v1 online brawls.
