It’s been a while since Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi’s Kickstarter campaign for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was successfully funded, garnering a then record amount of $5.5 million. People may have forgotten about the spiritual successor to Symphony of the Night, but Iga has not forgotten their promise of an 8-bit spin-off title. Now, the legendary director has come out in a new trailer introducing the retro platformer, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon.
The spin-off was developed by Inti Creates, who collaborated with Iga on the Kickstarter campaign. The game’s Steam page is now up and, as mentioned, a new trailer has been released. The game looks like it was heavily inspired by early Castlevania games, giving it a dark color palette and action-packed platforming. You can check out the trailer below:
Players will start out as Zangetsu, a swordsman, who encounters 3 others on his journey. Players will be able to switch between the 4 characters freely, gaining access to different attacks and skills for dealing with the game’s deadly creatures or gaining access to new areas.
Backers of the the Kickstarter campaign who pledged over $28 will receive a free code for the game, while others can purchase it as a standalone title.
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon releases on 24 May for PC, Xbox One, PS4, Switch, 3DS and Vita. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night still does not have a definite release date, but we should get to hear more details about it in the upcoming E3.
